Wendy Atkinson Life Story

Wendy Eileen Atkinson (Rubicuski) 72, of Montgomery, IL, was surrounded by her family when she went to be with the Lord on June 5th 2025.

She left behind her husband Bill Atkinson of 52 years, sister Charleen (the late Walter) Wolenski, children Kelly (Dan) Vitacco and Charlie (Jessica) Atkinson, grandchildren Katie (Sam) Payne, Isabella Vitacco, Tyler (Samantha), Aidan, and Declan Atkinson, great-grandsons Harrison, Jude, and Auggie Payne. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Deborah Matonis.

Wendy was born September 20th 1952 in Melrose Park Illinois to Ruth and Charles Rubicuski. She was a talented artist; in 1970 she was accepted into Columbia College of Chicago but chose to start a family and took great pride as a wife, mom and Grammy—fiercely loving her family and was a second mom to many. You could always find her at the table chatting with someone and filling up on appetizers before the main meal.  While she loved a good conversation, she was also an avid lover of games and puzzles.  Whether she was playing rummy, Boggle, Scrabble, or absolutely dominating in Tetris, it was her fun spirit and boisterous laughter that lifted every gathering.

There was no doubt for Wendy’s love for animals.  She shared a special bond with her dogs, who were more than pets- they were cherished companions and constant sources of joy.

Wendy had the gift of creativity. There was no limit in what she wanted to create.  Personalizing her home, coloring, drawing, and of course her beautiful crochets, adding her love into every stitch.

Wendy enjoyed relaxing by watching tennis, reading, playing hidden object games on her computer or sitting in a boat for hours with her husband Bill with a fishing pole in hand. But above all, she was a woman of unwavering faith.

Wendy loved the Lord deeply, she was a walking testimony of His love and grace.  A phrase she loved to use was, “He saved a wretch like me.”  Through her words, actions, and constant encouragement, she led countless others to know and walk with Jesus.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing she is now in the arms of her Savior.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
