Walter “Wally” D. La Plante

Walter (Wally) D. LaPlante, Sr., 79 of Oswego, Illinois died peacefully on November 3, 2023.  He was born in Harvey, Illinois on January 31, 1944 to Louis and Henrietta LaPlante.  Wally is survived by his wife Carol (Finchum), daughter Suzanne (Tim) Woelfer, granddaughters Breanne, Rachel, Kelsey and Holly, great grandchildren Joey, Jaxson, Kainan, Hazel, Anthony, Belle, Addie and Matt Jr. He was preceded in death by his son Wally Jr. and his brother Richard.  Wally retired after working for the Grand Trunk & Western/CN Railroad for 40 years.  He loved working at his church throughout the years and he loved his Lord.  He enjoyed traveling, especially throughout the National Parks (Yellowstone was his favorite!).  He took many trips to the Smoky and Rocky Mountains, which he loved.  His hidden talent was always knowing exactly where to find the cheapest gas prices!  He was comically frugal while also being extraordinary generous.  He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Services will take place at Bauman Family Funeral Home in Oswego, Illinois on Tuesday, November 7.  Visitation will be from 3-7, with the funeral service immediately following.
