On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Sydney Lee Crabbe, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age 85 in Geneva, Illinois.
Sydney was born on February 24, 1936 in Nokomis, Illinois to Hubert and Ruth (Cannon) Crabbe. He was the second youngest of nine children. On November 8, 1958, he married the love of his life, Lois Louise Otter. They raised two sons, Todd and Vincent.
His father was an upholsterer and taught Sydney the trade as well. Sydney and his brother opened their first shop in Nokomis at the beginning of his career. However, Sydney was a master upholsterer and was offered a position with Kroehler in Naperville as a pattern designer and engineer for many years. Sydney was a veteran and served proudly in the Armed Forces for his country.
His greatest passion was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He regretted not following the call to ministry but he made up for it daily by ministering to everyone he came in contact with. Sydney suffered from almost a dozen strokes in his lifetime and it never slowed him down. He rejoiced every time he went to the hospital because it was just more time for him to meet doctors and nurses and share his testimony and the gospel. He leaves behind quite a legacy.
He is survived by his bride of 63 years, Lois Louise Crabbe, one brother Kennard (Tracy) Crabbe, two sisters Ruth Sanders and Martha Robertson, two sons Todd (Janelle) Crabbe and Vincent Crabbe, and four grandchildren Hannah Crabbe, Nathan Crabbe, Joshua Crabbe and Caleb Crabbe.
Sydney was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Ruth, two brothers Hubert Jr. and Edward, and three sisters Charlotte, Elizabeth and Doris.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Harvest New Beginnings Church located at 5315 Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543 at 12 Noon. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
