Sonya Wright, who was born on July 2, 1966, in DeKalb, Illinois, and passed away on September 18, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois, lived a life defined by love, kindness, and devotion to the people she held dear. She was 60 years old and will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving, friendly, and selfless woman whose gentle spirit touched many lives.
Sonya attended elementary school, middle school, and high school in Aurora, Illinois, and graduated from West Aurora High School. She carried the values of her upbringing throughout her life, meeting others with warmth, sincerity, and a caring heart. Her education and early years helped shape the thoughtful and compassionate person she became, and those qualities remained with her throughout her life.
She worked at Fermilab, where she was respected for her steady presence and dependable nature. Sonya approached her work with quiet dedication and a strong sense of responsibility. She was the kind of person who made those around her feel comfortable and valued, and her kindness extended naturally into every part of her life.
Above all else, Sonya was a family-first person who treasured the people in her life. Her two sons, Eric and Ethan, meant the world to her, and she loved them deeply. She was a devoted mother whose love was constant, strong, and unwavering. She also held her siblings, Jeremy, Jessica, and Steve, close to her heart, cherishing the bond they shared and the time they spent together. Family was the center of her world, and she found great joy in the simple moments they shared.
Outside of work, Sonya found happiness in spending time with her family and friends. She loved music and her pets, and she treasured the simple joy of being with those she loved. For Sonya, time together did not need to be a special occasion because it was meaningful simply by virtue of the people she shared it with. Her presence brought comfort and warmth, and she made ordinary moments feel special through her genuine care and attention.
Those who knew Sonya will remember her as the sweetest person and a wonderful listener. She gave others her attention, offered kindness freely, and was always willing to help someone who needed her. Her thoughtfulness showed in the everyday ways she treated people, and she touched the hearts of those around her. She had a way of making others feel heard and cared for, and that gift will be remembered with deep gratitude by all whose lives she enriched
