Shirley Jo Vazquez, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Joliet, Illinois. Born on June 13, 1938, in Cleveland, Tennessee, Shirley's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. She was the heart of her family, a dedicated wife to her beloved husband Manuel Vazquez for 54 years, and a nurturing mother to her children.
Shirley's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her sons Vincent Vazquez and his wife Sharon, Steven Vazquez, Michael Vazquez and his wife Traci, Paul Jimenez and his wife Patricia, Edmond Jimenez and his wife Jeanne; her daughter Angela Perez; and her daughter Anita Needham and her husband Mike. She was a proud grandmother to Kelly, Vincent Jr., Sarah, Joseph, Jacob, Christina, Audrey, Olivia, Michael “Drew”, Lily, Emmi, Paul, Jeremy, Thomas, Carla, John, Ashley, Lacey, Matthew, Gilbert, Chris, Valerie, Natalie, Wally, Kristina, and Michael; and a cherished great-grandmother to Victoria, Madison, Lana, Corey, Harper Rose, Amelia Rae, Micaela, Eliza, Andrew, Hannah, Blayson, Kaylin, Kailey, Annabelle, Noah, Chase, Aydan, Angelica “Gigi”, Juliana, David, Gilbert Jr., Isabella, Adalena, Clarissa, Collin, and Riley.
Shirley was the dear sister to Barbara Workman, Rex Workman and his wife Linda, Tommi Lee Workman, and Joseph Anthony Workman and his wife Kaye; sister in law of Charlotte Workman. She was a treasured aunt to many nieces and nephews, and her spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Martin Workman and Lucy Belle (Gown), her siblings William Riley Workman, Martin Quinn, Calvin Workman and Linda Kay Workman, her children Victor Jimenez, Sandra Jimenez, and Barbara Ann Jimenez, and her grandson Nicholas.
A woman of profound faith, Shirley embraced Christ with her whole heart. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, exemplifying strength, honor, and love in every aspect of her life. Her acceptance of Jesus at age 70 was a pivotal moment, and her baptism in the Fox River at the age of 80 symbolized her unwavering commitment to her faith.
Shirley's interests and passions were as diverse as they were heartwarming. Known for being the life of the party, she never left anyone out and always had a kind word to say. Her home was a haven of hospitality, where she served others with joy and generosity, even in times of illness. A prayer warrior, she was also an awesome cook who loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Her laughter was contagious, and she was always ready to encourage others to see the brighter side of life.
Shirley's love for mystery movies and crossword puzzles was matched only by her fondness for lottery tickets and her favorite TV show, Matlock. She was a cancer survivor who faced life's challenges with courage and grace, always encouraging others to do the right thing. Her smile was a constant, lighting up every room she entered.
Selfless, loving, and kind, Shirley Jo Vazquez will be remembered for her unwavering love and the joy she brought to the lives of those around her. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her, and her legacy of love and service will endure for generations to come.
