Seth Bonebrake

Seth P. Bonebrake, who lived life with courage, curiosity, and a spirit all his own, passed away on August 15, 2026, in Oswego, Illinois, after a long hard fought battle  with his mental health and substance abuse. He was born on November 16, 1998, in Downers Grove, Illinois, and from the beginning he carried the adventurous heart and independent nature that would come to define him throughout his life.

Seth was the beloved son of Michele Songer and Brian Bonebrake, and brother of Cade Bonebrake. As a grandson, nephew, friend or passerby, Seth left a lasting impression on everyone that knew him. Seth also leaves behind his precious cat, Fig Newton, who meant the world to him. He was adventurous, courageous, and friendly, and he met the world with a willingness to explore, to learn, and to keep moving forward. Seth took risks, pushed boundaries, was a thrill seeker, and drew outside the lines…all while being a beautiful human with a tender heart.

He graduated from Oswego High School in 2017 and later continued his education at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he earned a degree in Marketing in December 2025. He also held a welding certification from Waubonsee Community College, reflecting both his determination to build a meaningful future and his appreciation for practical skills.

 
Seth’s passion for the outdoors began at an early age and created an amazing collection of escapades and memories. Along with Cade he attended Camp Palowopec and that instilled Seth’s love of running, skateboarding, hiking, rock climbing, travel and urban exploring.  Despite a recent serious medical illness, Seth completed a half marathon and kept an impressive 9 minute mile. Running was his way to combat his depression. Seth and his mom shared exciting experiences such as sky diving on his 18th birthday, road biking throughout the Greater Chicago area, hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and white water rafting. Seth was a natural on the golf course, and that’s where he bonded with his dad. They played often at Olympia Fields Country Club alongside his grandpa Charlie. Seth included Cade in his hobbies like skiing, and taught him the basics of skateboarding and some tricks along the way. Cade says “I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my brother’s guidance and love.”

Travel was one of Seth’s great joys, and he embraced every opportunity to see more of the world. He traveled to Europe for a month with his buddy Noah, an experience that added to the many stories and memories he carried with him. Seth traveled more than once to two of his favorite places, Colorado and San Francisco, with his buddies Dominic, Dylan, Ross and Ryan Jackson. He an Ruly traveled on scooter throughout New York City. In October 2025 Seth traveled to Japan and upon his return he told everyone it was a life changing experience. Seth’s memory will live on through all of us because of the experiences he created.

Visitation will held Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Bauman Family Funeral Home 5600 U.S. Route 34, Oswego, Il. 60534. We will pause for a funeral service at 4:30 p.m., Pastor Steve Good Will Officiate.
