Richard A. "Pops" Pendzinski, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on October 8, 1944, to Roman and Tillie (Parrot) Pendzinski, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard's life was one marked by devotion to his family, a passion for mechanics, and an unwavering friendly spirit that touched all who knew him. Richard's journey began in the city of Chicago, where he was born and raised, and where he would later meet and marry the love of his life, Sharon Wilson, in 1968. Though Sharon passed away too soon in 1981, their love story continued to inspire their family and friends. Richard was a dedicated father to his three sons, Richie (and wife Sue), Bob (and wife Michele), and Billy Pendzinski. Rich eventually found companionship again with Darlene Terando, who became his partner for the next 25 years. As a grandfather, Richard's joy was multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: Axel, Nick, Taylor, Madisan, Jordan (and spouse Alex), Alyssa (and spouse Jim), Bobby JR., Hailey, Brandon, Zach, Shannon, Cheyenne, and Katelyn. His role expanded with the birth of his great-grandchildren, Kendall, Jaxson, Elle, Evie, Grayson, Julian and Layla, who brought him immeasurable happiness and a new generation to dote upon. Professionally, Richard was known for his exceptional skill as a mechanic, a trade he loved and excelled in throughout his life. His hands were rarely clean, but always ready to fix anything that came his way. Colleagues and friends often remarked on his ability to listen to an engine and diagnose an issue with an almost uncanny precision. Richard's interests were as robust as his work ethic. His 1966 Chevelle was not just a car, but a companion and a project that he adored working on. He and Sharon shared a love for the thrill of the racetrack, traveling across the country to witness the roar of engines and the cheers of the crowds at the U.S. 30 Drag Strip in Indiana, or the Pensacola Racetrack. At home, Richard could be found watching his favorite TV shows, such as Roy Rogers, Combat, and Walker, Texas Ranger. He was a familiar face at the Montgomery V.F.W. and the Oswego Inn, where he was always ready with a story or a helping hand. In his later years, Richard found joy in the simpler pleasures of life. He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, whether it was sharing a drink on the front porch or enjoying the warmth of a bonfire in the driveway. His presence was a comforting constant, and his legacy of kindness and handiness lives on in those he loved. Richard's friendly demeanor and handy nature made him an unforgettable character in the lives of many. He was a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend. His laughter and wisdom will be dearly missed, but the memories he created will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Richard A. "Pops" Pendzinski's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. As we say goodbye to a man who was so much to so many, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of his family and friends. Richard's journey on this earth has ended, but his story will continue to be told with fondness and admiration by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
