Judy Ann Burns Life Story

Judy Ann Burns of Yorkville, IL passed away peacefully on Thursday March 27th 2025 in Oswego, IL in her daughters home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a very long battle with cancer.  She was 81 years Old.

Judy was born on July 25th 1943, Los Angeles, California. Her parents were Raleigh and Helen Teal. Her family moved to Mt. Vernon IL where she was raised.

She graduated from Mt. Vernon Township HS. In 1962. Judy moved with her family to Hodgkins, IL in 1963 where she worked for several years for the United States Postal Service, she was very proud of her job and loved driving her mail truck.  She later met her Husband, Daniel Burns, they  were married on July 3rd1969.  Judy and Dan moved to Downers Grove and raised a beautiful family having four children, Mark Thomas, Timothy John, Julie Danielle and Daniel Thomas.  Judy was a devoted stay-at-home Mom,  raising her family with Dan, she loved taking Summer trips with her family to Troy Sportsmen Club in Minooka, IL where they made many close friendships and spent many summers there.  Judy loved the outdoors and spending time in nature with her family.

Judy was a devout Christian and extremely devoted to her Pentecostal church and her faith. Judy loved reading scripture and spent much of her time reading her bible and sharing her love of the Lord with her family and friends.  She spent several years as a Sunday school teacher.

Judy was a devoted Mother and loved spending time as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.  She regularly coordinated trips with neighborhood friends to local beaches, Zoo’s and parks where she loved spending time with her family and close friends.

In 1982 Judy attended College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL where she pursed a Associates degree in accounting.  She later went on to work for Prudential Insurance for many years, where she became a team lead for her group.  She was very proud of her accomplishments as she transitioned back into her professional career.

Judy loved spending time going back to visit her parents in Mt. Vernon IL, especially for her annual Family reunion every July.  She enjoyed help planning this event with her Mother Helen and Daughter Julie, this was a very special time for her.  Her greatest joy was always when family was close to her.

Judy had a lot of hobbies, among them she loved playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.  She loved watching her game shows (especially Wheel of Fortune) and old western movies.  She loved her sports teams, her favorite was the St. Louis Cardinals.  As a Grandmother  she grew to love hockey she spent many years cheering on her Grandchildren at local ice rinks.

Most of all Judy was a kind, compassionate and a very caring person.  She was always there to lend a hand, give words of advise and wisdom and opened her home to anyone in need.  Judy had the gift of listening, she often had family and friends come to her for her nurturing nature.

Judy is survived by her children Mark (Debie) Burns of Downers Grove, IL , Julie (Len) Buonincontro of Oswego, IL and Daniel (Meri) Burns of Aurora, IL.  Her brother Mike Teal of Mt. Vernon, IL.  Grandchildren: Mark, Matthew, Michael, Vincenzo, Dominic, Sophia, Jade, Daniela, Daniel, Sofia, Brandi, Timothy and Corey.

She is preceded in death by her son Timothy J. Burns, Parents Raleigh and Helen Teal, and brother Rickey L. Teal.

Visitation  will be held on Thursday April 3, 2025 from 4pm – 8pm at Bauman Funeral Home at 5600 U.S. Route 34 Oswego, IL 60543. Funeral Service Friday, April 4, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Oswego Township Cemetery.
