Judithan VeZain Life Story

Judithan Franz VeZain, age 80, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Judithan was born and raised in Ottawa, Illinois, where she built the strong foundation of faith, family, and dedication that would guide her throughout her life. She attended Illinois State University, earning her teaching degree, and later furthered her education by earning her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois. Her commitment to learning reflected her lifelong passion for helping children grow and succeed.

On August 12, 1967, she married the love of her life, Gary VeZain, in Ottawa. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising two children: Sean VeZain of Colorado and Heather VeZain of Oswego.

Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to Natalie and Kaitlyn Jobes. Her granddaughters were truly the light of her life. She cherished every moment with them — helping in their classrooms, caring for them while their mother worked, and supporting them in every way she could. Her love for them was constant and unwavering.

Judithan began her teaching career in 3rd grade before moving to 2nd grade, where she spent the majority of her four decades at East View Elementary in Oswego. She took immense pride in shaping young minds and inspiring her students to excel. Teaching was not just her profession — it was her calling.

A faithful member of Oswego Presbyterian Church, Judithan was deeply involved in church life. She played in the handbell choir and was one of the original members to help form the group. Her hands were rarely still, as she lovingly crocheted hundreds of prayer shawls and neonatal hats to donate through the church. She was always looking for a way to help someone in need.

Judithan also had a deep love for genealogy. She spent countless hours researching family histories, carefully combing through old records to trace ancestors and piece together stories from the past. She not only explored her own family roots but often researched the histories of friends’ families as well, generously sharing her discoveries and helping others connect with their heritage.

Judithan is survived by her beloved husband Gary; her children Sean and Heather; her cherished granddaughters Natalie and Kaitlyn; her brother Don (Nancy) Franz; many nieces and nephews; dear friends; and all who were touched by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mildred Franz; her sister, Betty Jean Franz, who passed at birth; many aunts and uncles; and her many beloved fur babies.

Judithan’s life was one of service, faith, curiosity, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, generosity, and devotion to family that will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered until the day she is met again in heaven.
