Jeffrey Calafos Life Story

Jeffrey Calafos, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on June 13, 2025, in Plainfield, Illinois, at the age of 50. Born on January 2, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland Barry and Beverly Calafos, Jeff's early years were the foundation of a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family and God.

Jeff's journey through life was one of steadfast commitment and joy. After graduating with a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Pensacola Christian College in 1997, he married his college sweetheart, Roxana, the following year. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Sofia and Lucas, who Jeff loved with all his heart. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a constant source of love, strength, and guidance.

Professionally, Jeff began his career at Carroll County Corrections in Westminster, Maryland, in 1998, before serving the Hampstead Police in Hampstead, Maryland, from 1999 to 2005. His career took him to Plainfield, Illinois, where he continued his law enforcement service with the Oak Brook Terrace Police for a year and then with the Shorewood Police Department from 2006 until his passing. Jeff's courage and generosity were evident in his work, where he was respected by colleagues and the community alike.

Jeff's faith was central to his life. A devout Christian, he attended Harvest New Beginnings Church since 2006, where he served with humility and joy. Whether cleaning toys, serving in the nursery, participating in Awana, or as a member of the SERT team, Jeff's faith-filled life was an inspiration to many.

His interests were varied and reflected his love for history, particularly the Civil War era, and his passion for Star Wars, shooting, and sports. A loyal Duke Blue Devils fan, Jeff enjoyed watching basketball and cherished moments watching TV shows with his wife. Jeff's love for airplanes, model airplanes, and museums spoke to his inquisitive nature, and his love for dogs was unmatched.

An adventurous spirit, Jeff loved to travel to national parks, camp outdoors, and fish. His favorite pastimes included visiting army and airplane museums, chocolate chip cookies, barbecuing ribs, and indulging in ice cream. Jeff's love for the Muppets and old cartoons showcased his playful side, and his laughter was contagious.

Jeffrey Calafos lived by his favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  His life was a testament to these words, as he was a beacon of courage, generosity, and faith. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Roxana; his children, Sofia and Lucas; his brother, Michael Calafos; his brother-in-law, Sorin Marinca and wife LeeAnne; his sister-in-law, Claudia Bahnean and husband Adrian; his nieces, Adriana and Benjamin Bahnean; and his parents-in-law, Emil and Lidia Marinca. He was prededed in death by his parents, Barry and Beverly, and his Sister In Law, Margaret Calafos.

Jeff's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his impact on the world will be felt for generations to come. He was a man who embodied the virtues of a life well-lived, and while he will be deeply missed, the memories he created will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
