Helen Connelly McQuillan Moky, age 80 of Oswego passed away at home Saturday, December 9, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Helen was born on July 2, 1943, in Dundee, Scotland to James and Elizabeth Hutchison. She emigrated to the United States in 1959 to be near her sister Vera. She was married to John Moky in 1963 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chicago. Helen and John moved to Wheaton, where they raised their family, daughter Karen, and son, John. Helen was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed the art of Needlepoint and volunteered as a reading aid at her children’s elementary school. She loved shopping and watching soap operas on the television, and was known to be an avid reader, especially if it was a good mystery novel.
As her family grew with the addition of grandchildren, Helen watched her grandkids while their parents worked. Her grandchildren were her true joy. She enjoyed being able to make Christmas cookies with them, and as they grew older, she was certain to make every softball game, cheerleading competition, and band concert that she could.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John; her children Karen (Steve) Novy and John Moky; her grandchildren Madeline "Maddie", Sarah, Alexis, Kayla and Ryan and her sister-in- law Esther Moky. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Elizabeth Hutchison; siblings Agnes "Nessie" Tosh, Veronica "Vera" (the late Bill) Barrie and James Hutchison; brother-in-law Wayne Moky and sister-in-law Marilyn (the late Irv) Janicki.
A celebration of life is to be held at a later date.
