Edmund “Ed” Olson, age 88, passed away peacefully in his Yorkville home on April 1, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1938 at Berwyn MacNeal Hospital to the late Gottfrid and Catherine (McKinley) Olson.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Judith (Carlson) Olson in July 2024 and by his son, Michael John Olson of Charlotte, NC in May 2018. He is survived by his three daughters: Kathleen (John) Ahearn of Naperville, Julie (Dave) Hixson of Oswego, and Susan (Tom) Godfrey of Geneva. Nine grandchildren: Erik (Meghan) Olson, Lauren (James Dever) Olson, Miranda Olson, Tracy (Jeremy) Walker, Jake (Dafne) Ahearn, Connor and Ross Hixson, and TJ and Daniel Godfrey. Two great granddaughters: Emelia Jane Olson and Riley Elaine Ahearn. A brother, Steven (Linda) Olson and brother-in-law Richard Carlson.
Ed grew up in Warrenville, IL. attending WWHS, class of 1956. He held many jobs over the years including: driving an oil truck (without a license!), Caterpillar, Egizio Chevrolet (1960-1972), and in 1972 he obtained his life- long dream of opening his own business, Parkview Tire & Auto in Naperville on Washington Street.
Ed spent his early years racing cars. He had a 1940 Chevy Coupe named Black Mary. He bought the car at a junk yard and spent two years making it the beauty she became! He is survived by his favorite car, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible that her purchased in 1987. Ed was a member and treasurer of the Great Lakes Region Chevy Club for many years. Along with his wife, they enjoyed many trips and activities with the club, driving either their 1955 Chevy or their 1940 Chevy coupe.
Although Ed had many hobbies his favorite activities were spending time with his family. Boating on Sundays, camping out west with his parents, too many car shows to count, attending Cub games, and building a lake house on Lake Camelot in Rome, WI. The family built the home in 1979 from a kit by Lindall Homes.
The family would like to thank the staff at Light House Hospice and United Senior Services for their care, love, and support. Special thanks to Sekyai for caring for Ed in his final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Ed Olson’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).
A celebration of Life honoring Ed will be held at the Warrenville VFW on June 6, 2026 from 12-4. A small sharing of stories will be held at 2:00.
