Obituary

Dorothy Ann Borgra (nee Rodeghero), age 95 years, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Born in Joliet on April 18, 1928. Dorothy lived her life in the Lockport area until moving in with her daughter and son-in-law in Bristol, IL in 2016. Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1949. She married Charles Borgra and with Chuck owned and operated Oak Bluff Nursing Home in Lockport from 1954-1966. She worked at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet for many years and retired from the Joliet Correctional Center in 1992. Upon retiring in 1992 Dorothy started volunteering at Cornerstone Services, which she continued to do well into her 80's. She was honored for her many years of volunteering by the Rotary Club with their Silver Eagle Award and by Cornerstone with their Volunteer of the Year Award. Dorothy was a true example of a life lived in service to others.

Dorothy was an amazing, caring woman whose life revolved around her daughter, son-in-law, grandkids and their families. Dorothy never missed an athletic event, concert, or any special occasion. She could be seen and heard in the bleachers cheering for her grandkids. Her constant, unwavering support and love will be greatly missed by many of her family and friends. She was an avid bird watcher, seamstress, and enjoyed exercising, doing so well into her 90's! She loved to bake and cook and was known for her famous pecan rolls and her delicious cinnamon rolls. She also mastered the art of making raviolis, which she enjoyed doing with her grandchildren. The recipe she used was passed down and taught to her by her mother-in-law, who brought it with her from Italy.

Dorothy was the loving wife of Charles Borgra who preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Olive Rodeghero, her brother Ed Rodeghero and her sister Sharon Rodeghero.

She is survived by her only child, Carla (Tim) Kepler, her dearest grandchildren Christopher (Penn) Mohr, Joshua (Kara) Mohr, Adam (Stephanie) Mohr, and Melinda (Leo) Mendelsohn, and her much loved great grandchildren who she was Big Gigi to, Ratchaphon (Stamp) Tanapiboonsiri, Amelia & Elena Mohr and Maren Mendelsohn.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. She left behind a legacy of love, kindness and the importance of service to others. She left a lifetime of wonderful, loving memories for her family and friends.
