Darryl W. Herr, 62, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026. Born on April 10, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Ronald and Joyce Herr. Darryl lived a life marked by love, generosity, and thoughtfulness, and he will be remembered always for the kindness he showed to others and the devotion he had for his family.
Darryl grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois, where he attended elementary school, junior high school, and high school. He carried the values of his upbringing with him throughout his life, and those who knew him best appreciated his steady nature, his warm heart, and his genuine concern for the people around him. He was the kind of man who made others feel welcome, and his presence brought comfort and strength to his family and friends.
After graduating from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Darryl began a career in public service as a police officer in Henry County, Illinois. He served in that role for 10 years, dedicating himself to protecting and helping others. His work reflected his sense of duty, integrity, and commitment to doing what was right. After returning to the Chicago area, he continued his professional life as an insurance claims adjuster, where he was respected for his professionalism and dependable character.
Outside of work, Darryl enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to fish, take nice vacations, and spend time playing board games with those he loved. These moments brought him joy, but above all else, his family remained the center of his world. He treasured time spent with them and found his greatest happiness in being present for the people he loved most. His family will forever remember his laughter, his steady support, and the many ways he showed his love through everyday actions.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Beth, with whom he shared 32 wonderful years of marriage this October. He is also survived by his children, Ashley and Kegan and his wife Tricia, as well as his granddaughters Kailynn and Jordan. He leaves behind his brother Wayne and his wife Carrie, his sisters Cathy and Laura and her husband Tom, and his nieces Rachel and her husband Matthew, Kirstin and her husband Adam, and Whitney, and nephews Dawson and Eric. He is also survived by four great-nieces. His family was blessed by his love, and his memory will continue to live on in each of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Joyce, his brother Jeff, and his grandparents. Though his passing leaves a deep void, the love he shared and the life he lived will remain a lasting source of comfort to those who knew him. Darryl will be remembered as a loving, generous, and thoughtful man whose legacy is carried forward through the family and friends who loved him dearly
