Christopher Mang Life Story

Christopher J. Mang, a Christian and devoted family man, passed away on March 19, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on December 15, 1970 to his beloved mother Juandine (the late Duane) DeWees and the late John E. Mang. Chris grew up with a strong love for the Lord and the Word of God, influenced by the example set by his maternal grandparents.

Chris loved his country, which led him to serve over four years in the U.S. Navy. Boot camp brought him from Southern California to Great Lakes Naval Base. While in Illinois he met the love of his life, Julie (Nee Keppner), through a God-gifted cross-country connection of friends and family on January 13, 1990. That night, Chris called his friends and family to let them know that he had met ‘the one’. The two were united in marriage on October 6, 1991. Chris served two tours during the Persian Gulf War, operating as a gunner’s mate aboard the USS Horne and USS Stein.

After his distinguished military service, Chris embarked on a 30-year career as a train conductor for BNSF, where his reliability and strong work ethic were recognized by all. As much as he was looking forward to retirement, he enjoyed his work and coworkers.

Chris was a man of many passions. He was a member of Harvest New Beginnings Church since 2002. He was a longtime and avid Chicago Bears fan who enjoyed travelling to away games with his sons. His interests also included fishing, trapshooting, movies, music, playing cards with the guys, John Wayne, and daily Bible reading; but above all, he cherished the time spent with his grandsons, as proud Papa to Cole Christopher and Holden Holm Mang. He eagerly anticipated the arrival of two more grandbabies this upcoming summer.

Generous, faith-filled, and hard-working defined Chris. He was a Godly example to his family, including his wife Julie, his beloved sons Colton (Carolyn), Chase (Brooke), and Cade. Raising his sons was his greatest accomplishment. His family was his pride and joy and includes his siblings Robert, Kenny, and the late Gary (April) Mang. He was a wonderful son-in-law to Mary (the late Douglas) Keppner Sr. He was brother-in-law to Douglas (the late Callie) Keppner Jr., as well as a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews. Chris was a friend to many and wanted everyone to hear the Gospel of Christ.
