Amanda Torkilsen, a vibrant soul known for her spirited nature, creative flair, and boundless love, passed away at the age of 40 on August 7, 2024, in Oswego, IL, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 21, 1983, in Elmhurst, IL, Amanda was a beacon of joy and resilience to all who knew her.
Amanda's life was a rich tapestry of experiences and achievements. She attended the International Academy of Design and Technology where she studied Interior Design and she dedicated herself to serving her country as an Army veteran. Her strong work ethic and adaptability led her to a fulfilling career as a union carpenter, where she crafted not only structures but also lasting friendships. In quieter moments, Amanda found solace and pleasure in being a barista, where she shared her warmth and infectious smile with every cup she served.
Family was the cornerstone of Amanda's world. She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Torkilsen, and their three cherished children, Delainey, Addie, and Ronnie Torkilsen. Amanda's memory will also be treasured by her stepmother, Brenda DeRosa; her siblings, Ron (Jeannette) DeRosa, Denise DeRosa, Joe DeRosa, Mike DeRosa, Katie DeRosa, Jeff (Mindy) McCumber, and Brian (Angela) McCumber; as well as her adored nieces and nephews, Cory, Logan, Wyatt, Bailey, Nathan, Austin, Joe, and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Gerry DeRosa.
Amanda's interests were as eclectic as her talents. She had a passion for shopping, always keen to find the next treasure or perfect gift for a loved one. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful pieces through crocheting, a hobby that brought her immense satisfaction and peace. In recent years, Amanda took up the challenge of learning to golf, approaching the sport with the same enthusiasm and determination that characterized all her pursuits. Her love for her dogs was evident in the care and affection she lavished upon them, and they, in turn, were her constant and faithful companions.
To say that Amanda was loving is an understatement; she poured her heart into every relationship and embraced her friends and family with open arms. Her creativity shone through in her interior design work and her ability to transform any space into a warm and inviting haven. Amanda's spirit was unbreakable, even in the face of adversity, and her laughter and joy were infectious to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
