Obituary

William F. "Bill" Goodwin, age 81, of Yorkville, Illinois, passed away on October 17, 2026, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. Bill was born on November 4, 1944, in Berwyn, Illinois, and grew up in Chicago, where he built the foundation for a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a deep devotion to family and friends. He carried with him throughout his life the values of perseverance, humor, and kindness that were shaped in those early years. Those who knew him best will remember his warm smile, his quick wit, and the easy way he made others feel welcome. Bill attended Lane Tech High School in Chicago and graduated in 1962. He later attended Wright Jr. College in Chicago for a couple of years, continuing to build the practical knowledge and discipline that would serve him well in his career. He was also an active Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an achievement that reflected his sense of responsibility, character, and commitment to doing things the right way. Bill began his professional life with the CTA at the Merchandise Mart, where he made drawings. He later went to work for his father at Sol-Venite, where they created a thermal diffusion treatment that penetrates the steel's surface. That work was followed by another chapter in his career when he joined his brother's company, Inland Real Estate, as a broker. In each role, Bill brought dedication, intelligence, and a steady work ethic. He was respected for his ability to get the job done and for the practical, thoughtful manner in which he approached his work. On June 5, 1965, Bill married Diane at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Chicago. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love, faith, and shared memories. Together they created a life centered on family, and Bill treasured the years they spent side by side. He was a devoted husband who valued the simple joys of companionship and the comfort of being surrounded by those he loved. Bill enjoyed many pastimes that brought him happiness over the years. He especially loved fishing, and he and his friends looked forward to their "5W" trips up to Rainy Lake, Minnesota, and Canada. He also enjoyed golfing in Elburn, where he appreciated both the game and the time spent outdoors. Christmas was one of his favorite times of year, and he loved everything about it, including the time with family, the food, and the decorations that made the season so special. He also enjoyed the thrill of playing Powerball and buying lottery scratch-offs, always finding a little excitement in the possibility of a lucky break.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife Diane; Loving children Cathie (Rick Artman), Michelle Laraia and Denise (the Late Ed Kunz); 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
