Obituary

Dana Rose Garcia, age 67, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away on October 21, 2026. Born on July 15, 1959, in Macon, Missouri, Dana lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a deep love for the people around her. Dana was born and raised in Missouri, and later made Aurora, Illinois, her home for most of her life. Throughout the years, she embraced many opportunities and worked in a variety of roles, including as a caregiver and as a general manager for a tire company. No matter where life took her, Dana brought dedication, strength, and a strong work ethic to everything she did. She was the kind of person who stepped forward when others were in need, especially when someone was sick, injured, or facing a difficult season. Caring for others was not simply something she did, but something that came naturally from her heart. Above all else, Dana treasured her family. She loved watching her children grow and took great joy in being part of her grandchildren's lives. Her home and her heart were always open to her loved ones, and she made it a point to stay connected through conversation, laughter, and shared stories. Dana had a gift for listening, and many found comfort in her presence because she gave her time so freely. She was the kind of mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who could sit and talk for hours, always with patience, warmth, and genuine interest in the lives of others. Her children were her greatest blessing and proudest accomplishment, and her love for them was immeasurable. Dana also had many passions that brought joy to her life and to those who knew her well. She loved music, dancing in her younger years, and spending time with friends. She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, especially General Hospital, and she found comfort in her routines and favorite programs. Dana was also known for her wonderful cooking, and her food was cherished by everyone fortunate enough to share a meal with her. She even created cookbooks dedicated to her children, a reflection of the love she poured into every part of her life. She enjoyed making candles, collecting collectibles, working on diamond paintings, and caring for her plants with great pride. She especially loved planting her mother's favorite flowers and keeping everything around her beautiful and full of life. Dana had a special way of bringing people together. In her recent years, while living in the community apartment in Yorkville, she helped organize potluck dinners, bingo events, and gatherings that gave neighbors and friends a chance to connect. She was always ready to lend a hand, offer support, or simply be present for someone who needed help. Her kindness extended beyond her family and into every community she touched. She also enjoyed browsing her favorite stores, taking her time to look through every aisle, gather ideas, and bring home things that helped make her surroundings feel warm and welcoming. These simple pleasures brought her peace and contentment. Dana was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Torres and Foster Gross, as well as her brother Danny Gross, sister Tammy Techau, brother Robert Torres, brother Victor Torres, and sister-in-law Mary Torres, the wife of Santos Torres Jr. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lakeesh Menchaca, Jason Gross and his wife Kimberley, Andres Gross and his wife Denise, and Jose Cuevas and his wife Gabby. She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. Dana is also survived by her siblings, Pamela and Bill Cosby, Sherie and Paul Bork, David and Diana Torres, Santos Torres Jr., Daniel Torres, Michael Torres, Shawn and Samantha Torres, Normi Torres, Natalie Fotopoulos, Virginia and Michael Kurilla, Mirian and Niel Hillstrom, and Rebecca Torres. She is further survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, dear friends, beloved pets, and the caregivers who supported her throughout the years. Each of them will remember her loving spirit, her generous heart, and the comfort of her presence. Those who knew Dana will remember a woman who loved deeply, gave freely, and lived with compassion. She was thoughtful, generous, and loving in every sense of the word. Her life was a beautiful example of selflessness, and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, her stories, and her spirit will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
